Anxiety Attacks

The most normal reaction to typical stress in our lives is anxiety. It actually helps us to deal with daily stress, to find solutions to situations. While it does feel unpleasant, anxiety isn't always a bad thing since it can motivate us to action and keep us alert. However when anxiety becomes an unexplainable dread of everyday situations then it has become a disorder. For those that suffer from anxiety attacks, it is usually a surge of irrational fear that happens without warning. It is far more intense that the normal anxiety we all feel when experiencing stress. Anxiety can stem from posttraumatic stress disorder and if not diagnosed properly can lead to social phobias and even agoraphobia, which is a fear of leaving the house.

Symptoms

There are both emotional and physical symptoms of anxiety attacks. Emotionally you may have constant feelings of dread or have trouble concentrating at home, work or at school. You may feel tense and jumpy all the time or be irritable and restless. These symptoms are persistent and can be severe, causing worry in most situations where others don't feel threatened or stressed. The physical symptoms of an anxiety disorder include insomnia, fatigue, a pounding heart and constant headaches. Many medical professionals will prescribe anti depressants or muscle relaxants to those who are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, however there is a more effective drug-free methods to controlling and easing your symptoms.

Coping or Cure

There is a very big difference between coping with your anxiety attacks and actually curing them. Coping is what happens when you're placed on prescription medications. It is only a temporary fix, dealing with the symptoms as they arise instead of working to cure the underlying issues. Curing actually offers long-term results because it doesn't just work on the symptoms but on the root cause of the disorder. When you decide to follow a drug free treatment program, you are working to cure the issues causing your attacks instead of just masking and coping with the symptoms.

Individuals who suffer from anxiety attacks feel a loss of control, depending on a prescription medication to ease these attacks causes you to lose even more control. You worry about running out, you worry about not having them close at hand if you should need them and this worry only heightens your anxiety levels. Drug free treatments, however, give you back your control and teach you how to deal with stressful situations in a positive way. Depending on coping mechanisms to deal with your anxiety will not offer a cure, but knowing yourself and your body will.
